US accounts for 53.5% of global bot traffic, says Decodo

The United States accounts for 53.5% of global bot traffic, according to analysis by Decodo. The United Kingdom ranks ninth with a 3.3% share.

Germany is second with 8.2% of global bot traffic, followed by the Netherlands on 5.6% and Singapore on 5.4%. France and China each account for 3.9%, while India records 3.5% and Ireland 3.4%, just ahead of the UK. Brazil, Japan and the Russian Federation make up the next tier in the ranking.

The figures reflect a wider shift in internet use, with automated systems now generating more traffic than human users. Bots account for 57.4% of global web requests, compared with 42.6% from people.

Traffic split

The share of bot traffic within each country's own web activity varies more sharply than the global ranking suggests. In the United States, bots make up 43.6% of all traffic, while Germany stands at 45.0%.

Elsewhere, the automated share rises to 61.3% in the Netherlands and 73.7% in Singapore. Iran records the highest proportion in the dataset, with bots responsible for 81.4% of all web traffic, despite contributing 2.4% of global bot activity overall.

Ireland also stands out, with bots accounting for 71.1% of its domestic traffic. Hong Kong reaches 55.6%, Finland 56.8% and the UK 21.1%, placing Britain below several major markets by the proportion of automated visits to local websites.

The report links the increase in automated traffic to the rapid growth of AI-driven browsing tools. During 2025, agentic AI traffic rose about 7,851% year on year, while overall AI-driven traffic increased roughly 187%.

AI influence

AI systems are increasingly interacting with commercial parts of the web. Decodo found that 77% of agentic AI activity reached product and search pages during 2025, indicating that automated systems are visiting the areas where consumers often compare items and make purchase decisions.

Retail and eCommerce sites remain a major destination for automated activity. About 13% of successful automated requests analysed by Decodo were directed at those sites.

A separate analysis cited in the findings showed that retail accounted for 62.5% of AI training crawler activity. This suggests product listings and related commercial information have become a primary source for systems gathering data for AI use.

The findings point to a more complicated picture for website operators than traditional bot management practices imply. Some automated traffic is associated with scraping, fraud or credential attacks, while some comes from AI assistants and other tools that index or retrieve information on behalf of users.

That distinction matters for teams beyond cybersecurity. Marketing, eCommerce and analytics departments may also need to understand how automated systems are reaching their sites, particularly if AI-assisted discovery changes how products and services are found online.

According to the methodology, the analysis draws on Cloudflare Radar and Decodo internal data to assess the balance between automated and human web requests and the geographical source of bot traffic. Additional growth figures for AI traffic were based on HUMAN Security's State of AI Traffic report.

The country-level results also show that a large share of global bot traffic can coincide with more moderate domestic bot penetration, and vice versa. The United States leads by a wide margin in total share, but smaller markets including Iran, Singapore and Ireland report much higher proportions of automated traffic within their own internet activity.

For the UK, the data suggests a middle position. Britain contributes 3.3% of global bot traffic, and bots account for 21.1% of its own web traffic, below the levels seen in the US, Germany and several smaller digital hubs.
